In our laboratories, we work on advanced solutions in the field of animal implantology and bio-scaffolding with built-in bioactive medicinal substances. Biomaterials are used by specialized veterinary units.

Prof. dr hab. Rafał Wilgusz

Research in the materials and biomaterials department is supervised by prof. dr hab. Rafał Wiglusz, a professor at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław. In 1999, he graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the University of Wrocław (specialization in Environmental Chemistry). He defended his doctoral dissertation on the synthesis and spectroscopy of lanthanide compounds in 2004. In 2005–2006 he was on an internship at the University of Cologne. Currently, he is conducting research in the field of spectroscopy of nanocrystals doped with lanthanide ions – for applications in bioimaging.

Personalized autologous intra-articular implants (Nova-joint)

Liquid subchondral bio-scaffolds (CARTI +)

CARTI + autologous biological implants are an advanced solution for the regeneration of subchondral cysts based on liposomal forms of biopolymers and stem cells. CARTI + is a liquid and biodegradable bioprosthesis that effectively regenerates subchondral cysts by creating a spatial bio-scaffold for the growth of stem cells. Biopolymers are successfully applied in personalized human medicine and their effectiveness has been confirmed in clinical trials in both human and veterinary medicine.

Cisplatin implants

It is an innovative biotechnological solution that encapsulates cisplatin into biodegradable liposomes with a prolonged release rate. Cisplatin is a drug routinely used to treat squamous cell carcinoma or sarcoids. The procedure of manufacturing cisplatin implants is carried out only on the order of the attending physician.

Subdural implants with ciclosporin

It is an innovative biotechnological solution that encapsulates ciclosporin into biodegradable liposomes with a prolonged release rate. Ciclosporin is a routinely administered drug in the  treatment of equine recurrent uveitis (monthly blindness).
